California Laboratory Intake Portal (CLIP) – New EDT Submittal Requirements

Dear Customer,

All certified drinking water analytical laboratories—including those that are subcontractors of other laboratories—are required to submit water quality data directly to the Division of Drinking Water (DDW) in digital, electronic form. This submittal is referred to as Electronic Data Transfer (EDT) according to Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations Sections 64469  and 64819  as established reporting requirements in 2001.

In September 2021, a new drinking water quality data intake portal called California Laboratory Intake Portal, or CLIP has been implemented by DDW. Additionally, the new PS code has been introduced and assigned to each sampling point site of public water systems.

In order to successfully EDT your systems results, please be sure to request for regulatory compliance AND request Electronic Data Transfer and include the correct seven digit system PS code as shown CA#######, followed by the three digit source code AND another three digit source code provided for each system on your Chain of Custody upon submittal. This information can best be obtained by contacting your district engineer at your local State or County Health Department or by visiting the Monitoring Schedule page listed below. Providing only a sample site description without these codes is insufficient for EDT submittal.

Failure to include this information upon submittal can lead to non-compliance as well as additional fees and fines incurred to submit historical data.

Each system's monitoring schedule can be found by Drinking Water Watch Website: https://sdwis.waterboards.ca.gov/ PDWW/ .

It's updated often, so visit it regularly to keep your materials needed for EDT submittals up to date. The Division of Drinking Water's (DDW's) drinking water quality monitoring notification documents identify upcoming required contaminant testing of drinking water for water systems in California. They are updated periodically to reflect changes in the database.

*Results of bacteriological analyses are not required to be submitted by EDT as of February 2025.

Please feel free to give us a call with any questions or concerns and we will be happy to go over them with you.

We appreciate your cooperation and continued business.

Sincerely,

David Holland

Laboratory Director
